Some Tips and Tricks on How to Make Your Slow Computer Work Faster

For most users, the computer is like a dream-come-true. That is because; it serves so many purposes and makes life so much easier! But at the same time, it is equally true that the computer can become a real thorn in the flesh, if proper maintenance is not carried out. Here are simple tips to help make the slow computer Windows XP being the operating system faster and more efficient.

First of all, one needs to clean the disk. This can be done by using the Disk Cleanup facility, an in-built disk cleaning tool of Windows. This can be accessed by going to Start menu, from there to Programs and to Accessories, then to System tools and finally to the utility. Here one can select the drives to clean. After it is done, which should take quite a while depending upon the amount of data stored on the computer; the computer should feel much faster. That is because the Disk Cleanup gets rid of all the unnecessary and redundant files and even duplicate entries. All history lists, temporary folders and files etc. are also cleaned by this utility.

Next come the Registry editor and the Disk Defragmenter. For using the registry editor, one needs to type in regedit.exe in the Run box from the Start menu, while for the latter, going to System Tools as before would suffice. The disk defragmenter is going to bring together all the pieces or fragments of files that were scattered all over the computer. This helps increase the processor speed and hence that of the computer.

There are other reasons for slowness like inadequate Windows page file space, too many CPU hogging startup programs and virus or other malware. All these need to be dealt with properly to make sure that the computer is not running slow.
